Taken on February 9, 1864 by photographer Anthony Berger, this portrait became one of the most commonly used image of Abraham Lincoln after his death, appearing on mourning ribbons and badges, as well as in lithographs, etchings, and engravings honoring the fallen president. Having been used on American paper currency since as early as 1869, the photograph was selected for the redesigned five dollar bill in 2008.
