Abraham Lincoln: On the Prairie
1961
Anna Hyatt Huntington (1876-1973)
Plaster
Gift of Steven M. McIntyre and Charles C. Phelan
Internationally renowned sculptor Anna Hyatt Huntington was acclaimed for her lifelike depictions of animals. She married philanthropist and railroad heir Archer M. Huntington in 1923 and the couple established Brookgreen Gardens in South Carolina, where her large animal sculptures are still displayed. This representation of a young Abraham Lincoln on horseback is a prototype from which a mold was created to cast bronze sculptures.
