Sellout Crowd Debates Mary’s Maddness at 78th Annual Watchorn Lincoln Dinner

Over 325 Lincolnophiles packed the Orton Center at the University of Redlands for the 78th Annual Watchorn Lincoln Dinner on February 12, 2010.  All in attendance, including  Mr. Lincoln (Bill Peck) and Mrs. Lincoln (Jane DeBeaumont), enjoyed wine and hors d’oeuvres, a served three course dinner, and several selections of period music presented by Jeff Rickard and the Redlands Community Chorus. Historian and author of The Madness of Mary Lincoln, Jason Emerson was the featured Lincoln Dinner speaker.  Drawing upon his book, current research, and a subtle wry wit, Emerson examined and explained the many rumors and assumptions about the temperament of Mrs. Lincoln. The night drew to a close, with Emerson happily signing books and autographs to the delight of a long line of attendees.
